Jose Mourinho backs Chelsea striker Diego Costa to rediscover form
Jose Mourinho says Diego Costa needs to improve his physical condition
Jose Mourinho has backed Chelsea striker Diego Costa to rediscover his goal-scoring form.
The Blues forward failed to net for his third consecutive game as Chelsea were lost 2-1 to Newcastle United at St James’s Park on Saturday.
He was injured and had many doubts because he went a long time without training
Costa has contended with a niggling hamstring injury throughout much of the season, but has still managed to score 11 goals in 12 Premier League games.
And Chelsea manager Mourinho is confident his £32m signing will get back to his best when the 25-year-old is fully recovered from his fitness problems.
“For me, the problem is not the goals – they will come as a consequence of his condition,” Mourinho said.
“He has to improve his condition. He was injured and had many doubts because he went a long time without training.
“Obviously that must have an effect on a player in the way he runs, the way he moves and in his co-ordination.
“I don’t think there is any problem but he has to recover.”
Costa moved to Chelsea in a £32m deal from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
