Jose Mourinho has claimed that Manchester United’s lack of European football this season is a “big advantage for Louis van Gaal’s side.

The Red Devils are only competing in two competitions this season after their seventh-place finish last term.

And Mourinho, whose Chelsea side are still in all four major competitions, feels that the Red Devils possess a significant advantage over their domestic rivals.

Mourinho said: “It’s good for us that our direct opponents in the Premier League are involved in European competitions. United are not.

“They have the same advantage that Liverpool had last season in terms of the Premier League, a big advantage, but I’m happy City and Arsenal are still involved in the competition.

Chelsea host Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
