Leicester 1 Liverpool 3: I’ve full trust in my players, says Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers praises his Liverpool players for a 'magnificent' performance
Brendan Rodgers declared that he has “big trust” in his Liverpool squad after the Reds were 3-1 winners against Leicester City.
The Merseyside outfit fell behind after Simon Mignolet inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net following a nervy start at the King Power Stadium.
I have big trust in the players. We needed to pick up the standard again
However, Adam Lallana levelled before half-time and under-pressure captain Steven Gerrard finish from close range in the 55th minute.
Jordan Henderson cemented three points with seven minutes remaining, prompting Rodgers to heap praise on his players after a difficult period.
Rodgers said: “It was a great victory, players were magnificent. We had to work very hard but our quality came through in the end.
“We should have won in Europe. Three good performances. I have big trust in the players. We needed to pick up the standard again.
Rodgers went on to shed some light on the thinking behind his controversial decision to drop Gerrard for the 1-0 victory over Stoke City on Saturday.
“Steven Gerrard was rested last weekend with tonight in mind. When you rest a player people ask why. When you play them you are asked why aren’t you resting them. The energy from being rested at the weekend gave him the energy to play tonight.”
