Kolo Toure believes England midfielder Adam Lallana has been Liverpool’s best player this season.

The 26-year-old helped the Reds beat his former side on Wednesday night as Raheem Sterling scored twice and Lazar Markovic netted to seal a 3-1 win against Bournemouth in the League Cup last eight.

Lallana has scored two goals and made two assists in 18 appearances in all competitions following the midfielder’s £25m switch to Anfield from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

And Liverpool centre-half Toure heaped praise on the former Saints captain following the Red’s morale-boosting 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup.

“We are very happy [with everyone’s performance],” Toure told Liverpool’s website.

“But, for me, Adam has been the best player in this Liverpool team this year. Definitely.”

Lallana scored nine goals in 38 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season.
