Paul Ince believes Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has restored Marouane Fellaini’s confidence.

The Belgium international scored his first goal at Old Trafford since his move to United as the Red Devils edged to a 2-1 victory over Stoke City.

This year it seems Van Gaal has put belief in him, given him some confidence, and he is paying him back

Fellaini was heavily criticised during David Moyes’s doomed reign after United coughed up a £27.5m fee for the towering Everton midfielder in 2013.

But former United captain Ince highlighted Fellaini is repaying his manager for his vote of confidence in the Belgian.

“Manchester United is a massive, massive club and he went for such a lot of money that people were judging him too soon,” Ince told talkSPORT.

“Sometimes it takes a while to get your feet under the table and understand what it is like to be a Manchester United player.

“You have to perform every week, you can’t get away with bad performances, and the early part of Fellaini’s stint at Man United he struggled.

“This year it seems Van Gaal has put belief in him, given him some confidence, and he is paying him back, that is for sure.”
