Louis van Gaal has heaped praise on David De Gea following the goalkeeper’s impressive recent form for Manchester United.

The Spanish shot-stopper pulled off a number of second-half saves to help United secure a 2-1 victory over Stoke City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

And the Red Devils boss has expressed his delight at the way the 24-year-old has been improving his game since he took over at the club during the summer.

“De Gea is a goalkeeper so he has to stop them,” said Van Gaal.

“I think he has two or three shots on his goal [against Stoke] and that is it.

“It is very difficult for a goalkeeper to keep the concentration and the focus but he improves every week so I am happy with him.”

Tuesday’s win kept United fourth in the Premier League table on 25 points.
