Wayne Rooney lavished praise on David De Gea after the goalkeeper’s “incredible” performance helped Manchester United seal a 3-0 victory over Liverpool.

The visitors had an incredible 19 attempts on De Gea’s goal but the Spaniard made eight saves to deny Brendan Rodgers’s struggling side at Old Trafford.

And United captain Rooney was quick to hail the Spain international’s latest eye-catching performance as the Red Devils notched their sixth successive Premier League win.

Rooney broke the deadlock in the 12th minute as he finished past Liverpool number two Brad Jones before Juan Mata netted a rare headed goal before half-time.

Netherlands international Robin van Persie scored his third goal in six days as the 31-year-old sealed three points for the hosts to move them to within eight points of leaders Chelsea.
