Morgan Schneiderlin would be a welcome addition to the Arsenal squad, according to Perry Groves.

The Gunners were linked with the France international during the summer transfer window, whilst their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur had a reported £20m bid rejected for the midfielder.

The Saints managed to keep hold of Schneiderlin despite the exodus at St Mary’s following Mauricio Pochettino’s move to White Hart Lane, and the midfielder has scored three goals in 15 Premier League appearances.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with a move for a defensive midfielder next month, and while Groves would prefer a more powerful signing, the ex-Arsenal winger would be happy with the arrival of Schneiderlin.

“He’d be a welcome addition to the Arsenal squad because he is very good technically, he sees a pass and scores a goal as well,” Groves told The Sport Review.

“Probably as good if not better than the midfield players we’ve got, but priority wise, I’d rather see a more athletic or physical player like Nemanja Matic at Chelsea.

“That is what Arsenal need at the moment. But if Schneiderlin was to come, you’d take that.”

Schneiderlin has scored 10 goals in 89 Premier League appearances since Southampton’s promotion to the top-flight in 2011, earning a reputation as one of the league’s best up-and-coming midfielders.
