Ole Gunner Solskjaer says Louis van Gaal has been a breath of fresh air at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have won their last six Premier League games to move up to third place in the table, beating bitter rivals Liverpool 3-0 at Old Trafford last weekend.

And former United striker Solskjaer is encouraged by Van Gaal’s claim that the 20-time English champions need to be challenging for the top-flight crown perennially.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air. The fans and the players needed a strong personality,” Solskjaer told Manchester Evening News.

“You see he’s talking about winning the championship. I think that’s the Man United mentality. We shouldn’t talk about being third or fourth. We should talk about winning the league.

“I’ve been here for too many years to say they can’t. Be in the hunt in March April and you never know. That’s when everything gets decided.”
