Ashley Young accepts Manchester United weren't at their best
Ashley Young accepted Manchester United didn’t produce their best performance after the Red Devils were 2-1 winners at Southampton.
Netherlands international Robin van Persie managed to collect Southampton defender Jose Fonte’s loose backpass to open the scoring at St Mary’s.
Graziano Pelle had levelled for Saints with his first goal in six games as Ronald Koeman’s side looked to remain above the 20-time English champions.
However, 31-year-old Van Persie managed to glance home captain Wayne Rooney’s free-kick to notch up United’s five successive win.
And Young was thrilled with three points despite United’s lacklustre performance against the south coast club.
“Not our best performance but Big 3 Points #TeamSpirit ! Away support tonight was unreal, always appreciated,” Young wrote on Instagram.
United welcome bitter rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford in their next Premier League outing on Sunday.
