Robin van Persie has hailed Manchester United’s “massive” three points after the Red Devils edged to a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Monday.

The visitors took the lead after Jose Fonte’s mistake allowed the Netherlands international to scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

However, Southampton’s Italy international Graziano Pelle levelled the match before half-time with his seventh league strike since moving to the Saints.

But Van Persie scored a 71st-minute winner to help hoist United above Southampton and into third place in the Premier League table.

Van Persie wrote: “Massive 3 points tonight. Want to thank the away fans for your amazing support, you were amazing! Looking forward to our next game on Sunday vs Liverpool. #ComeOnManchesterUnited @youngy_18 @waynerooney”

United welcome bitter rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford in their next Premier League outing on Sunday.
