Rodgers delivers latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Arsenal clash
Brendan Rodgers says Dejan Lovren will undergo a late fitness test
Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool centre-half Dejan Lovren will have a late fitness test ahead of their clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
The Croatia international was substituted at half-time of their 3-1 win against Bournemouth in the League Cup on Wednesday after the defender suffered a groin injury.
And Liverpool manager Rodgers, who has won just three of his last 11 games in all competitions, issued an update on Lovren’s fitness ahead of the game against Arsenal at Anfield.
“We’re just waiting to hear on that – hopefully he’ll be fine,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference. “We’ll assess that before the weekend.”
The 41-year-old Reds manager also confirmed that Brad Jones would start ahead of dropped Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet against the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Rodgers revealed that Liverpool had accepted Mario Balotelli’s one-game ban and fine from the FA after the striker charged for an Instagram post which appeared to contain anti-Semitic and racist references.
