Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update after Stoke win
The Manchester United manager spoke about Wayne Rooney, Angel di Maria and Daley Blind on Tuesday
Wayne Rooney will have a knee scan on Wednesday to determine the seriousness of the injury he suffered in Manchester United’s win over Hull City at the weekend.
The Red Devils captain limped off late on during the 3-0 triumph over the Tigers and sat out Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal, however, is hoping that the England international’s injury is not too serious.
“It’s his knee, but we have to wait for tomorrow to say anything about him because you never know with a knee,” said Van Gaal.
“My opinion is it is not so heavy [serious] but I am not a doctor. So we have to wait for the scan then we will know more. But I hope it is not so heavy.”
Van Gaal also revealed that Angel di Maria is likely to miss next week’s trip to Southampton with a hamstring problem.
“Di Maria is not so heavy but of course he shall not play against Southampton. But you never know,” he said.
And the United boss hinted that Daley Blind could be set to return from an ankle injury by the end of the month.
It’s not so heavy as I have already said,” he said. As for a possible return date, he added: “Not next week, I don’t know… Christmas maybe – maybe Christmas.
“At the end of December maybe we see light at the end of the tunnel.”
