Arsene Wenger has revealed that Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini were substituted during Arsenal’s win over Galatasaray as precautions.

The midfield pair were both replaced at half-time during the 4-1 Champions League victory in Turkey with minor injury complaints.

But Wenger revealed afterwards that the duo should be fit to face Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

“Ramsey had a hamstring, but should be alright for Saturday,” Wenger said. “Flamini had a calf, but should be OK.”

Ramsey, who scored twice in the first half against Galatasaray, also played down concerns about his fitness after the game.

“I felt a bit of a tight hamstring at half-time,” said Ramsey. “So I came off as a precaution with the game against Newcastle at the weekend.”
