Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Liverpool trip
The Arsenal boss reveals that he has concerns about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's fitness
Arsene Wenger has revealed concerns surrounding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s fitness after the Arsenal forward was substituted in Saturday’s win 4-1 over Newcastle.
The England international was brought off in stoppage time at Emirates Stadium in apparent discomfort as Wenger’s men wrapped up victory over the Magpies thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla.
And the Frenchman has revealed that there are concerns over the 21-year-old’s fitness ahead of Sunday’s trip to Liverpool in the Premier League.
“We cannot afford to lose him at the moment. I hope it is nothing bad,” said Wenger.
“He had a little bit of inflammation before the [Newcastle] game. I took him to Galatasaray and maybe two games was a lot for him.”
Speaking after Saturday’s win, Wenger also revealed that midfielder Aaron Ramsey and defender Laurent Koscielny are set to be sidelined for this weekend’s trip to Anfield.
“Ramsey and Koscielny will be out for a couple of weeks,” Wenger said. “They will not be available next week.”
