Arsenal transfers: Alvaro Arbeloa hopes to finish career at Real Madrid
Alvaro Arbeloa hopes to finish his career in a Real Madrid shirt
Alvaro Arbeloa has moved to end speculation linking the Real Madrid defender with a return to the Premier League.
The former Liverpool full-back has 18 months remaining on his current Madrid contract, prompting reports of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks.
However, Arbeloa, who moved to the Spanish capital from Liverpool in 2009, underlined his desire to finish a decorated career with the 10-time European champions.
“I am very lucky to be at Madrid. I have one and a half years left [on my contract] and hopefully I can continue as long as possible, and my last shirt in football is the white one,” Arbeloa told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.
Arbeloa has made just 11 La Liga appearances this season, racking up a mere 384 minutes of top-flight football.
The 32-year-old has scored five goals in 209 appearances in all competitions for los Blancos since his move five-and-a-half years ago.
The former Spain international has won La Liga, two Copa del Reys and the Champions League during his spell in Madrid.
Arbeloa spent three seasons at Liverpool after Rafael Benitez signed the defender from Deportivo La Coruna in 2006.
