Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger discusses midfielders’ contracts
The Arsenal boss was quizzed about the futures of Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin on Friday
Arsene Wenger says that there is “nothing to report” surrounding Mikel Arteta’s contract situation at Arsenal, but confirmed that Francis Coquelin is on the verge of signing a new deal.
There have been widespread reports this week that Arteta, whose current deal is set to expire in June, had agreed to pen a one-year contract extention to keep him at Emriates Stadium until the summer of 2016.
However, Wenger poured cold water on those claims on Friday morning. Asked about the 32-year-old’s contract situation, Wenger told a news conference on Friday morning: “There is nothing to announce.”
The Frenchman did, however, reveal that midfielder Coquelin is set to sign a new deal at the north London club.
The 23-year-old, who spent part of last season on loan to Charlton Athletic, has impressed during his seven Premier League appearances for the north London club so far this season.
And the Gunners boss confirmed that a deal is now “99 per cent” complete.
