Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger drops hint over January activity

Arsene Wenger hints that Arsenal could sign a number of players this month

Arsene Wenger has hinted that Arsenal’s January transfer window activity will not stop with the signing of Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal.

The Gunners are closing in on a £15m deal to sign the Brazilian defender from the La Liga club and Wenger said on Thursday that he hopes a deal can be confirmed in the next few days.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of other players during the mid-season window, including West Ham United defender Winston Reid.

And when asked if the potential signing of Gabriel could mark the end of his transfer dealings this month, Wenger suggested it wouldn’t.

Asked if a deal for the defender could bring down a curtain on his business this month, Wenger told a news conference on Thursday morning: “Not necessarily.”

Reid has been linked with a move from Upton Park to Emirates Stadium as Wenger looks to bolster his defensive options.

The Frenchman confirmed last week that the New Zealand captain was one of the players on his radar this month.
