Arsenal transfers: Gunners handed Gabriel Paulista boost
Villarreal accept that they could be set to sell Gabriel Paulista to Arsenal this month
Villarreal coach Marcelino has revealed that the Spanish club could be set to sell Gabriel Paulista to Arsenal this month.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his desire to bolster his back four this month following injuries to key players such as Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy in the first half of the season.
Reports in Spain this week have suggested that Arsenal are closing in on a £15m deal to sign the Brazilian centre-half this month.
Now, Villarreal boss Marcelino has conceded that the La Liga club could be set to sell the 24-year-old in the coming days.
“I hadn’t considered selling Gabriel, it’s bad news from a sporting point of view,” Marcelino told El Larguero.
“If both Gabriel and the club believe that his sale to Arsenal is the best for all parties, we will accept.”
Wenger said on Sunday, after his side’s 2-0 win at Manchester City, that the Frenchman remains keen on bringing in defensive reinforcements before the close of the mid-season transfer window on 2 February.
Arsenal moved up to fifth place in the Premier League table thanks to their impressive 2-0 win at Manchester City on Sunday.
The Gunners, however, still remain 13 points behind leaders Chelsea.
