Arsenal transfers: Winston Reid responds to speculation
Arsenal target Winston Reid says that he is paying little attention to the speculation surrounding his future
Winston Reid insists that he is not paying any attention to the transfer speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal this month.
The West Ham defender has been touted as a possible target for the north London club as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his defensive options during the mid-season transfer window.
It’s not like we look out for news about players, and it’s mainly the media
Indeed, Wenger confirmed last week that Reid, 26, was one of the players on the Gunners’ radar this month.
However, despite the uncertainty surrounding the New Zealand captain’s future, the defender insists that he is simply focused on performing for West Ham.
“People often ask me whether January is a strange month for footballers because of the transfer window and gossip – to be honest as players we don’t really notice it that much,” Reid told West Ham’s website.
“It’s not like we look out for news about players, and it’s mainly the media surrounding football as to why there’s always a lot of talk about transfers – but players honestly don’t really take notice of it that much.”
New Zealand captain Reid has been a regular fixture in West Ham’s defence this season, scoring one goal in 21 Premier League games for Allardyce’s side.
The Hammers are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, just four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and 18 points behind leaders Chelsea after a stunning start to the season.
