Arsene Wenger: Why I love Arsenal’s ‘wonderful’ Tomas Rosicky
Arsene Wenger heaps praise on Tomas Rosicky after the midfielder's brilliant display at Brighton
Arsene Wenger reserved special praise for Tomas Rosicky following his impressive performance in Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the lead within 60 seconds of the FA Cup fourth-round tie, before Mesut Ozil slotted in to make it 2-0 in the 24th minute.
Rosicky volleyed home a brilliant third after Chris O’Grady had reduced the deficit, before Sam Baldock’s 75th-minute effort set up an exciting finale.
However, the holders held on to book their place in the fifth round of the tournament – and Wenger was particularly impressed with Rosicky’s display.
“He was wonderful,” Wenger told his post-match news conference. “He is a player we all love.
“If you love football, you love Rosicky. On top of that he’s a fantastic character, scored and I’m very pleased for him.”
Wenger was also pleased to see Walcott and Ozil get on the scoresheet after their spells on the sidelines with knee injuries.
“For a first game it was encouraging,” Wenger continued. “Ozil as well – maybe they dropped a little bit physically in the second half but overall they were ready.”
Arsenal’s next game is a home clash with Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium in the Premier League next weekend.
The FA Cup fifth-round draw takes place on Monday.
