Australian Open 2015: Madison Keys sets up Serena Williams clash

Madison Keys beats Venus Williams in three sets to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final

Madison Keys reflected on an “amazing moment” after battling past Venus Williams in three sets to reach the Australian Open semi-finals.

The unseeded 19-year-old triumphed 6-3 4-6 6-4 in one hour and 54 minutes at Melbourne Park to reach her first Major semi-final.

“It’s definitely an amazing moment,” said Keys. “I’m enjoying those moments for little bits of time and then refocusing and thinking about the next round.”

The teenager had to overcome the recurrence of an upper leg injury which had hampered her at Wimbledon last year.

“It was definitely kind of a flashback to Wimbledon for me,” she said. “I have had some problems with that part of my leg, so it was kind of an overwhelming moment.

“It was kind of scary but luckily I was able to catch it before I did any real damage to it.”

Meanwhile, world No1 and top seed Serena Williams hit 15 aces as she beat 11th seed and last year’s finalist Dominika Cibulkova 6-2 6-2.

Williams revealed after her victory that she has been struggling with a virus.

She said: “I’ve felt better, but I’m feeling OK. I’m just happy to still be in the tournament. I definitely have a little raspy voice. Hopefully I’ll get better.

“I’ve been sick the past few days. It’s just getting worse and worse. But hopefully it will start getting better.

“I heard it’s a virus going around with a lot of the players. I think I caught it.”
