Balotelli was never going to be up to Liverpool’s standard, says ex-Red
David Thompson hints that Mario Balotelli is one of Liverpool's worst signings
David Thompson says he isn’t surprised Mario Balotelli has failed to impress following his Liverpool move in the summer.
The 24-year-old striker has failed to score in 14 Premier League appearances after he completed a £16m switch to Anfield from AC Milan.
Balotelli, who has scored against Middlesbrough and Ludogorets, has been linked with a return to Serie A amid reported interest from Sampdoria.
Former Liverpool midfielder Thompson took to Twitter to reinforce his stance that Balotelli was never going to cut it at the Merseyside club.
I warned everyone that Balotelli was not up to the standard of Lfc and was a poor buy but got pelters for it! #neverbeenaplayer

Thompson, who made 48 appearances for the Reds, hinted that the Italy international is one of Liverpool’s worst signings of the past 15 years.
Over the last 15 years I've seen some rubbish pull on an Lfc shirt that's been embarrassing let me know your worst use #poorsigning

Balotelli has scored two goals in 18 appearances in all competitions this season for Liverpool.
Liverpool face Chelsea in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge after a 1-1 draw at Anfield last week.
