Bolo Zenden: Brendan Rodgers needs trophy to keep Liverpool fans happy
Bolo Zenden reckons Brendan Rodgers needs to add experience to his Liverpool squad
Bolo Zenden has warned Brendan Rodgers that he needs to win a trophy to keep Liverpool supporters onside.
The Reds missed out on a place in the Capital One Cup final after a 1-0 defeat by Chelsea following extra time in the second leg of their semi-final last night.
It is a young team and when you look at the other teams they have a lot of experience in there
Rodgers hasn’t added any silverware to the bulging Anfield cabinet since the 42-year-old Northern Irishman was appointed as Kenny Dalglish’s successor in 2012.
Former Liverpool midfielder Zenden reckons Rodgers needs to secure a trophy in the near future to keep Liverpool fans happy after an extended spell without success.
“The way Liverpool have been playing lately has been fantastic,” Zenden told talkSPORT.
“Obviously the fans are far more happy now than they were at the beginning of the season, but Liverpool and the fans are always looking for the team not just to win games but to get themselves to a final and win a trophy.
“If there is a [trophy] drought it could start working against Brendan Rodgers.”
Zenden questioned the lack of experience in Rodgers’ side, urging the Liverpool manager to add some players with Premier League know-how to his squad.
Liverpool welcome West Ham United to Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday before a FA Cup replay against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.
“If you look at his team, there is a lot of youngsters, a lot of prospects. His average team the other day was 24, I believe,” Zenden added.
“It is a young team and when you look at the other teams they have a lot of experience in there. It is a different ball game if you have that [experience] in your team.”
