Cambridge United

Chris Dunn Fumbled Di Maria’s shot from distance but largely untested in the first half. Brilliant save to deny Falcao on the hour. 6/10

Richard Tait Untroubled for the most part in the first half. Made some important interceptions as the game wore on. 6

Michael Nelson Blocked the first man at a number of crosses well and was quick to disrupt any positive movement from United. Confident from the former Hibernian defender. 6

Josh Coulson Argubly had one of the best chances of the first half as his headed effort grazed the top of the bar from five yards. 6

Greg Taylor Did well to prevent Falcao’s shot passing him in the first 20 minutes. Battled with Valencia well as he tried to limit the United winger’s threat down the right. 6

Sullay Kaikai Caused plenty of problems down the right flank. Sacrificed for Dunk as Cambridge looked to force the issue in the second half. 6

Tom Champion Did his job admirably at the back, keeping the ball and distributing well. Rallied his troops brilliantly as he urged their efforts to continue. 7

Liam Hughes Scuffed a right-footed effort just wide inside 15 minutes for the hosts. Put plenty of effort in for his side and was part of a fantastic collective performance. 6

Ryan Donaldson (Man of the match) Caused problems with his set-piece delivery early on. Earned a cheer when nutmegging Blind as he advanced down the flank. Involved in everything Cambridge produced in attack. 9

Cameron McGeehan The Norwich loanee looked lively, linking up with Donaldson and KaiKai to cause plenty of problems. Got booked for his troubles in the second half. 6

Tom Elliot Had a good chance early in the first half from a set-piece, but couldn’t direct his header on target. Unfortunate to see his header inadvertantly blocked by his team-mate Coulson. 7

Substitutes

Harrison Dunk Replaced Kaikai shortly into the second half, provided a decent threat down the left-hand side. 5

Luke Chadwick Replaced Hughes with 15 minutes to go. Let the occasion get to him a bit, and looked short of pace but a great cup story nonetheless. 5

Manchester United

David De Gea Made a couple of decent saves but largely untested throughout. 6

Marcos Rojo Looked up for the fight from the off, getting stuck in and imposing himself on the Cambridge attack. 8

Phil Jones Made a confident start to the match pairing with Rojo to control United’s defensive respsonsibilities. 7

Marouane Fellaini Booked in the first half for a cynical challenge on Kaikai. Ineffective for most of the match was duly replaced with 25 to go by Herrera. 5

Angel di Maria Largely frustrated in the first quarter of the game. Wasted a couple of chances in good areas in the first half. 5

Daley Blind Involved in plenty early on, controlling the phases of play and aiding the transition from defence to attack seamlessly. 6

Michael Carrick Marshalled well at the base of a midfield diamond. Provided the back four with some added cover. 6

Antonio Valencia Showed his pace down the flank and managed to put the ball in well. Shifted well into the wing back role, but unable to get an attack going. 6

Adnan Januzaj Showed hesitancy in attack, made some important challenges as the match wore on. 6

Radamel Falcao Got into some great positions going forward but was largely frustrated at the lack of regular service he was getting. 6

James Wilson Grew into the tie as the first half wore on, but was never really comfortable. Replaced by Van Persie in the second half. 5

Substitutes

Robin van Persie On for Wilson, missed a guilt-edged chance from five yards, blazing over. 6

Ander Herrera On for Fellaini, looked good in a central role, shifting the ball about well. N/A
