Chelsea 1 Man City 1: Player ratings as Eden Hazard impresses

Player ratings as Chelsea and Manchester City share the spoils

Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois Could have perhaps prevented the Man City goal if he’d been more decisive in the build up. 5/10

John Terry Unable to cope with Aguero for the most part. Did venture forward on an attack but saw his header fire over. 5

Branislav Ivanovic Lost the ball a couple of times in important areas. Did as well as he could do in stopping Aguero and Silva. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta Lucky not to have conceded a penalty after a clumsy challenge on Aguero. Played a delicious ball over the top to Hazard for the goal. 7

Kurt Zouma Looked lively early on and coped well with Aguero for the most part. Finding his feet in the Premier League, for sure. 6

Nemanja Matic Won possession well in the midfield, sparking a number of counter-attacks. Didn’t forget his defensive duties, though, and was quick to cut off attacking movements from the visitors. 6

Eden Hazard (Man of the match) Typically dangerous in all areas. Did remarkably well to cross from Azpilicueta first-time pass for Remy’s goal. 8

Oscar Sharp throughout but couldn’t really get involved as much as he would have liked. 6

Willian Great ball to Remy but the Frenchman was adjudged offside. Looked lively until he pulled up with an injury with 10 minutes to go. 5

Ramires Put in plenty of hard yards for his side, linking up well with Hazard. Never stopped working for his team. 7

Loic Remy Looked interested from the start, making some dangerous runs, but perhaps being let down by the service. Rewarded for his awareness with a brilliant goal, latching on to Hazard’s delightful cross. Replaced late on by Cahill. 8

Substitutes

Didier Drogba Replaced injured Willian, failed to make an impact. 5

Gary Cahill Came on for Remy to sure up Chelsea’s defence and did just that making sure the match finished a draw. 5

Ruben Loftus-Cheek Made his Premier League debut coming on in injury time for Oscar and didn’t have time to make an impact. N/A

Manchester City

Joe Hart Rarely tested by the hosts and was unable to prevent Remy from scoring at close range. 5

Gael Clichy Extremely lively down the flank, beating players with ease on a number of occasions. Had little to do in the second half as Chelsea shut up shop. 6

Vincent Kompany Struggled with Remy’s smart running and could have done more to prevent the Frenchman scoring in the first half. 5

Martin Demichelis Performed well in the heart of City’s defence, opting to stay back and allow Kompany the freedom to move. 5

Bacary Sagna Fronted up against Remy stoutly. Pacy and dynamic in attack and defense. Did fade as the match wore on. 4

Fernandinho Looked a rock in front of the back four, keeping Hazard at bay well. Never stopped all the way to the final whistle. 6

Fernando Drove forward well from midfield. Clumsy at times, giving away needless fouls. Replaced by Lampard. 4

Jesus Navas Disciplined in midfield, trying to keep the Chelsea attacking threat to a minimum. Provided a great pass to Aguero to set up their first goal. 6

David Silva Was sharp-minded to deflect Aguero’s driven effort into the Chelsea goal to level the match. 5

James Milner Made some dangerous runs. Looked sharp throughout but missed a chance late on. 6

Sergio Aguero Missed a guilt-edged chance on the half hour, putting the ball narrowly wide of Courtois’ far post. Provided the assist for Silva’s first half equaliser. Tireless in his running until he was replaced by Dzeko late on. 6

Substitutes

Frank Lampard On for Fernando and got a rousing reception from both sets of fans. Played one ball over the top but couldn’t get the fairytale winner for his new club. 5

Edin Dzeko Replaced Aguero with five minutes to play and couldn’t make an impact. N/A

Stevan Jovetic Replaced David Silva in the 90th minute and never really got involved. N/A
