Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho delivers January window update
Jose Mourinho insists that Chelsea have no plans to be involved in the January transfer window
Jose Mourinho has once again insisted that Chelsea have no plans to sell any players during the January transfer window.
Both Mohamed Salah and Andre Schurrle have been linked with possible transfers away from the west London club this month due to their lack of playing time this term.
Salah has been limited to just three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and five in all competitions.
Normally, nothing should happen in the next two weeks
World Cup winner Schurrle, meanwhile, has only started five top-flight games for the Blues in the current campaign.
However, the Portuguese coach has once again underlined his desire to keep his squad together until the close of the mid-season transfer window on 2 February.
Asked about any possible transfer dealings this month, Mourinho told a news conference on Friday afternoon: “The club doesn’t move. We don’t move.
“Our desire is to keep the same squad which reflects that we are happy with the players, that we are happy with the work we did in the summer to prepare for the season, and the trust we have in the group.
“If possible we don’t want to be involved in the transfer window. If we have to be, it’s because somebody pushed us for that with some interest in our players but Chelsea moving and looking fora a change, no. Normally, nothing should happen in the next two weeks.”
Mourinho also said that both Salah and Schurrle are set to feature for Chelsea in their FA Cup fourth-round tie with Bradford City on Saturday.
“Salah is selected for tomorrow,” he continued. “Schurrle played against Swansea a week ago. He was ill and [that’s why] he didn’t play against Liverpool. He’s back with the group and normally, starting the game tomorrow.”
