Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho responds to Steven Gerrard talk
The Chelsea manager remains a keen admirer of the Liverpool captain...
Jose Mourinho refused to rule out a potential bid to bring Steven Gerrard to Chelsea after the Liverpool captain leaves Anfield at the end of the season.
The Liverpool skipper is set to join MLS side LA Galaxy next term but has already been linked with a possible return to the Merseyside club on loan.
Chelsea famously came close to signing Gerrard from Liverpool after the midfielder handed in a transfer request back in 2005.
And Mourinho spoke of his admiration for the former England captain after Tuesday night’s 1-1 League Cup semi-final draw at Anfield.
Asked if he would be tempted to make a cheeky bid for Gerrard, Mourinho told BBC Sport: “Or perhaps to take him on loan?
“I would love the Premier League to keep the best players and I believe he has the quality to play for more years.”
Gerrard has been a key figure for Liverpool so far this season, scoring five goals and making one assist in 20 Premier League games for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
He has spent 17 seasons at the Anfield club and led them to Champions League glory in 2005.
