Chelsea transfers: Vincenzo Montella delivers Juan Cuadrado update
Vincenzo Montella backs Juan Cuadrado to stay at Fiorentina
Vincenzo Montella says he is confident that Juan Cuadrado will stay at Fiorentina despite reported interest from Chelsea.
The Colombia international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks amid speculation the Premier League leaders want the forward to replace Andre Schurrle, who is being linked with Wolfsburg.
The 26-year-old has been one of Fiorentina’s top performers in Serie A this season, scoring four goals Cuadrado helped La Viola to draw 1-1 with top-three rivals Roma on Sunday, helping the Florence side climb up to sixth in the Serie A table.
Fiorentina manager Montella is hopeful that Cuadrado will ignore interest from the English top-flight in the January transfer window.
“In his contract there is an escape clause and if another team pays this amount he can leave Fiorentina – and if he agrees (to leave). But I think he will stay at Fiorentina,” Montella is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“The clause says £35 million and only in this situation is it possible to buy. But I have not spoken to him about it.”
The Fiorentina forward rose to prominence after his impressive performances for Colombia during the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
The former Udinese star has scored 20 goals in 85 Serie A appearances for the Florence outfit following his move in 2012.
