Chelsea’s Eden Hazard feels ‘lucky’ to play alongside Diego Costa
Eden Hazard talks about the privilege of playing alongside Diego Costa
Eden Hazard says he feels lucky to play with Chelsea team-mate Diego Costa.
The Spain international has been charged by the FA with violent conduct after the 26-year-old appeared to stamp on Liverpool defender Emre Can during Chelsea’s 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
However, Hazard defended Costa’s never-say-die attitude amid the current controversy surrounding the £32m summer signing, adding that the striker’s tenacious attitude inspires his fellow Chelsea colleagues.
“Diego motivates us all,” Hazard is quoted as saying by Goal.
“When you play with this guy, you have to give everything. You can see in every action and for every ball, he gives his life.
“Even if he does not score, he gives his life. For us, for the players, when you play with him, it’s very good.
“In training he is different. But in games he is very good. He never stops. He had a very good mentality against Liverpool.
“Every team and every player knows Diego now. He got one yellow card. But we need him because he can score every minute, every second of every game.
“I don’t know if I would hate to play against him. I play with him, and I’m happy with that. I’m lucky.”
Costa has scored 17 goals and has made four assists in 19 Premier League appearances this season following his summer switch from Atletico Madrid.
The Brazilian-born striker rose to prominence at los Rojiblancos, helping to fire Diego Simeone’s men to the La Liga title last season.
Chelsea are five points clear of second-placed Manchester City, but the league leaders could be without Costa for the clash against the defending champions at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
