Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho welcomes Liverpool clash after FA Cup shock
Jose Mourinho can't wait for Chelsea to return to action after Bradford shock
Jose Mourinho has welcomed Chelsea’s clash against Liverpool coming just days after a shock FA Cup fourth-round defeat by Bradford City.
The Premier League leaders squandered a commanding 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 to the League One side in west London in dramatic fashion on Saturday.
It’s the good thing that, when you lose, you have to focus immediately on the next game
The Blues have little time to recover as they welcome Liverpool for the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final after a 1-1 draw on Merseyside last week.
Chelsea manager Mourinho is looking forward to forgetting the Bradford result, particularly as there is a place at Wembley up for grabs in west London on Tuesday night.
“The next game is the most important one,” Mourinho told Chelsea’s website.
“At the end of May, beginning of June, we don’t go to Wembley to play the FA Cup final, that’s for sure. The FA Cup is finished for us. We don’t go there even to play the FA Cup semi-final. It’s over for us.
“To go there – and I think that should mean a lot to everyone – the last chance we have is this one, to play there in the Capital One Cup final.
“We need to forget this one [Bradford] and start the next game in a different competition, and I know we are one victory away from playing a final.
“It’s the good thing about playing consecutive matches without many days in between. It’s the good thing that, when you lose, you have to focus immediately on the next game. You don’t have a lot of time to be moaning or analysing what happened in the bad one. Let’s move and let’s think about the next one.”
The Blues have lost three games in all competitions this season after the Bantam’s memorable victory over the seven-time FA Cup winners.
Chelsea are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their clash against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
