Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois: Everything to play for against Liverpool
Thibaut Courtois issues Chelsea rallying cry ahead League Cup semi-final second leg
Thibaut Courtois says everything is to play for after Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.
The Belgium international produced a man-of-the-match performance to ensure Liverpool couldn’t claim a first-leg victory despite a dominant second-half performance at Anfield.
Courtois denied Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling before the 22-year-old pushed Adam Lallana’s powerful drive away from his goal, sending Twitter into a frenzy.
And the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper issued a rallying cry ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge next Tuesday.
Courtois wrote on Instagram: “Liverpool 1 – Chelsea 1! Everything to play next week in front of our fans! C’mon Chelsea! #CFC”
Chelsea forward Eden Hazard edged the Blues ahead after Liverpool’s makeshift centre-half Emre Can brought down the Belgium international in the home side’s penalty area.
However, Liverpool managed to maintain their momentum after an exhilarating opening period, and Sterling scored a superb solo goal to level the tie ahead of the return leg.
Chelsea are top of the Premier League by five points, whilst Brendan Rodgers’s men remain in eighth place despite a eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
