Denis Irwin: We won’t see Man United at their best until next season
Denis Irwin believes injures have hampered Manchester United's progress under Louis van Gaal
Denis Irwin doesn’t believes Manchester United will produce their best form until next season.
The Red Devils currently reside in fourth place after a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday.
I don’t think we can expect to see the very best of United this season
United manager Louis van Gaal, who was appointed in May, spent over £150m on new signings in the summer transfer window.
However, the Dutch coach has been forced to contend with a steady flow of injuries since the start of the season.
And former United defender Irwin reckons injuries to key personnel mean Van Gaal’s side will take longer than expected to gel.
“Other than David De Gea, hardly any of our players have gone through the season without being sidelined at some point,” Irwin told United’s website.
“We need a run of games where we don’t pick up any injuries and until the manager gets that stability, I don’t think we can expect to see the very best of United this season.”
Falcao has struggled to recreate his Atletico Madrid and Porto form since his move to Old Trafford, netting three goals in 13 Premier League appearances.
Di Maria, who swapped Real Madrid for United in the summer transfer window, has scored three goals and has made six assists in 14 top-flight games.
The Red Devils face Cambridge United in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend.
