Federico Fazio demands Tottenham improvement ahead of League Cup tie

Federico Fazio eyes a Tottenham victory in the League Cup

Federico Fazio says Tottenham Hotspur have to make improvements if Spurs want to reach the League Cup final.

The north London side suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

We must improve on our performance from Saturday, fight for what we want and be fully focused

Pochettino’s side have little time to recover ahead of their trip to Sheffield United for the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final.

And Fazio, who won the Copa del Rey with Sevilla in 2010, reiterated that Spurs improve on elements of their performance against the Foxes.

“Saturday was a match that we wanted to win and I think we played well in some parts of the game. We were aggressive all together on the pitch, but some days you’re unlucky in some of your actions and we ended up losing,” Fazio told Tottenham’s website ahead of Wednesday’s clash.

“Now we need to think about the next game at Sheffield United. We need to take some of the things that we did well against Leicester and improve on other elements in this game.

“It’s a very important match and we all really want to get to the final. We must improve on our performance from Saturday, fight for what we want and be fully focused.”

The Argentina international has been a regular at centre-half alongside Jan Vertonghen in recent months.

Fazio has played 12 Premier League games this season, as well as 10 further appearances in cup competitions.

The 27-year-old completed a reported £8m switch to Tottenham from reigning Europa League holders Sevilla in the summer transfer window.
