Juan Mata demands Champions League return with Man United
Juan Mata is desperate to help Manchester United seal a return to the Champions League next season
Juan Mata admits that he is desperate to help Manchester United secure Champions League qualification this season.
The Red Devils have had to do without European football this season after their dismal seventh-place finish last term following David Moyes’ doomed reign at Old Trafford.
United are currently fourth in the Premier League table but just one point ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal after 22 games, with Tottenham also only three points behind the Red Devils.
And the 26-year-old Spanish playmaker has declared his desire to help Louis van Gaal’s side break back into Europe’s elite club competition.
“It’s difficult, every Tuesday and Wednesday watching the games on TV,” Mata is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“It’s the thought that we all have in our minds that we need to be back in the Champions League – it’s the most attractive competition in the world. We need to be there again.
“It is going to be a fight until the end and not just between two teams, it will be between three, four, five teams, that we are now in a short difference of points.”
Mata has been in decent form for United so far this season, scoring five goals and making three assists in 19 Premier League games for the Red Devils.
United’s next game is a home clash with Leicester City at Old Trafford as the Red Devils look to gain revenge for their shock 5-3 loss earlier in the season.
