Matt Le Tissier says Southampton must believe a top-four finish is a realistic possibility after their famous win at Manchester United.

The Saints secured their first victory at Old Trafford in 27 years as Dusan Tadic’s 69th-minute strike sealed a 1-0 win against the 20-time English champions.

And Southampton legend Le Tissier reckons that memorable win alongside positive results against Arsenal and Chelsea should give Ronald Koeman’s side belief in the top-four race.

Le Tissier said: “When you’ve picked up seven points against Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, there will certainly be a few more fans starting to believe.

“I think once you get into this stage of the season, anybody down to Liverpool will believe they have a decent chance of making the top four and we’re certainly one of those teams.

“The point that we got against Chelsea just gave us that little bit of belief that we can get something out of those big games.”

Le Tissier was keen to stress that he never feared for Southampton’s Premier League status despite selling Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.

“I was always aware that the money was being spent on the players and I always said don’t panic and never feared for relegation,” Le Tissier added.

Do you think Southampton will finish in top four?
