Liverpool

Simon Mignolet A largely untroubled first half as Bolton’s attacks tended to fizzle out in front of him; claimed a few crosses and came out well to mop up attacks in the second period. 7

Javi Manquillo With most of the first half play taking place on the other side of the pitch, had a quiet start to the game, before he maybe should have done better at the far post when Sterling’s cross fell to him after 34 minutes. A bit more involved second half, and dragged a cross-shot wide as the hour mark approached. Replaced by Borini. 6

Glen Johnson An uneventful opening half hour before he trundled forward to fire a volley straight at Bogdan. Up more in support of attacks in the second half, but not quite to enough effect.6

Emre Can An increasingly integral part of Liverpool’s style of play, the German stepped out with confidence to turn defence into attack, but was unable to find too many holes in the Bolton defence. 7

Mamadou Sakho Strong in defence as both Gudjohnsen and Heskey looked to target him, and more composed on the ball than he can sometimes be. 7

Jose Enrique A fine run midway through the first half created a very threatening position for Liverpool, which he then wasted with a wild cross. Replaced at half-time as Liverpool looked to up the creative ante. 6

Joe Allen Put a sloppy pass straight out of play after ten minutes as Liverpool looked a little rattled by Bolton’s fast start, and was unable to stamp his authority on the midfield thereafter. Replaced by Lucas with 25 minutes to go. 6

Jordan Henderson His well-struck shot in the opening stages was saved comfortably enough by Bogdan, but it showed the confidence of a future permanent Reds captain. Nearly through for a late winner after a clever exchange with Coutinho, and flashed over in injury-time. 7

Philippe Coutinho Showed clever feet to earn an early corner, before striking a powerful low shot straight at Bogdan. Picked up a knock a few minutes later, but shrugged it off and kept on finding pockets of space in front of Bolton’s defence. Had a vicious strike kept out by Bogdan just before the hour, and was probably his team’s most dangerous player. 8

Raheem Sterling Sparky, and linked up well with Coutinho, as he tends to do, but would be an even better player were he a bit more cold-eyed in front of goal. 7

Adam Lallana A driving run 11 minutes in was about the first real sign of life from the Reds, and he had an effort from distance saved by Bogdan. A bit on the fringes, however, and a late header which gently looped over summed up his performance. 6

Substitutes

Lazar Markovic Replaced Enrique at half-time, and looked to have broken through five minutes later before being taken down by the already booked Mills. His introduction certainly gave his side extra impetus. 7

Lucas Leiva On for the ineffectual Allen, but probably not the person Liverpool wanted the ball to fall to on the edge of the box in the final ten minutes. 6

Fabio Borini Replaced Manquillo with 25 minutes remaining, and had a curling shot tipped just wide by Bogdan before powering a header inches wide in injury time. 6

Bolton

Adam Bogdan Called upon a few times in the first half without needing to overly stretch himself. Did well when called upon more often in the second period, including a fine challenge at Sterling’s feet and a fingertip save from Borini. 8

Liam Feeney Adopted a high starting position, which helped set up a few good opportunities for his team but left a bit too much space for Liverpool down their left hand channel. 6

Matt Mills Hooked an early shot into onrushing defenders as his team started well. Booked for dragging back Sterling a minute or two later, but did not let that stop him, as he put in a number of crucial blocks. A touch lucky not to see red following a last man challenge on Markovic, and substituted to some extent for his own protection in the later stages. 8

Tim Ream In smartly to intercept on a few occasions, and his, alongside his centre back partners, was a solid performance. 7

Dorian Dervite A classy player, who looked calm and controlled when stepping out of defence. Started to look a little flustered as Liverpool took command of the ball, and picked up a late yellow card. 7

Dean Moxey Looked adventurous, particularly in the early exchanges, and saw a venomous half-volley whistle wide just after the half hour. Substituted for Wheater in the final minutes. 6

Neil Danns Showed a good eye for anticipating and halting attacks, and this was a neat and tidy performance. 7

Josh Vela Picked up Bolton’s second booking in the opening quarter of an hour for a perfectly-timed rugby tackle, but curbed his enthusiasm a little while taking the odd opportunity thereafter to get forward in support of attacks. 7

Darren Pratley (Man of the Match) Buzzing around with intent throughout, linking up well with Gudjohnsen in particular while also doing his job tracking back. Looked comfortable enough to have played more regularly at this level, but at 29, time may have passed him by. Picked up a late yellow card. 8

Emile Heskey The former Liverpool man was typically powerful in the air without ever looking likely to create an opening, and lasted 55 minutes before being placed by 20-year-old Wilkinson. 5

Eidur Gudjohnsen Still as intelligent as ever both with his positioning and his tricks and flicks, but not quite the energy to truly threaten the Reds’ back line, and wasted a good free kick opportunity after 51 minutes before putting good chances wide and over when well placed inside the box. 6

Substitutes

Conor Wilkinson On for Heskey, and managed to get ahead of Can at the near post to meet a Feeney cross, but unable to convert. 6

Jay Spearing The former Liverpool man replaced Matt Mills in the final 20 minutes, and put in a shift to help earn his team a replay. 6
