Liverpool 1 Chelsea 1: Eden Hazard reflects on Anfield draw
Eden Hazard feels that Chelsea are in a good position ahead of their League Cup semi-final second leg
Eden Hazard praised Chelsea’s defence after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final tie.
The Belgium international gave the Blues the lead at Anfield from the penalty spot in the 18th minute after Emre Can’s clumsy challenge brought him down in the box.
But Liverpool battled back and deservedly drew level when Raheem Sterling raced through the Chelsea defence and finished coolly past Thibaut Courtois.
Jose Mourinho’s men then had to withstand waves of pressure from the home side, with Steven Gerrard hitting the post as they pressed for a winner.
However, the Reds could not find a winner ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge in a week’s time, with a place at Wembley against either Tottenham Hotspur or Sheffield United at stake.
“It wasn’t the best but I think we are good for the second game because a draw here is not bad,” said Hazard after the game, speaking to Sky Sports.
“When they scored the first goal it was always difficult. We defended very well and it is a good result.
“Simon Mignolet has saved penalties from me in training with Belgium so I was a little bit scared! But it was a goal so for me it was good.”
Chelsea’s next game is an FA Cup fourth-round clash with Bradford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
