Liverpool boss Rodgers delivers latest injury update on Sturridge
Daniel Sturridge is set to return to full Liverpool training on Sunday
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Daniel Sturridge could be ready to feature for Liverpool in Tuesday night’s League Cup semi-final second leg at Chelsea.
The striker has not played for the Reds since August after suffering a string of thigh and calf problems but is now closing in on a return.
Sturridge is due to return to full first-team training on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Stamford Bridge.
And Rodgers, speaking to BT Sport after his side’s goalless draw with Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening, described Sturridge’s imminent comeback as a “big boost”.
“He actually starts training with the team tomorrow,” said Rodgers. “He’s done all his rehab now. He’s at a really good level of fitness.
“He’ll only have a couple of days [of full training but] we’ll see how he is for Chelsea – he’ll be ready for West Ham.
“Like I said, he’s training with the team tomorrow, he’s worked very hard so hopefully it will be a big boost for us.”
Liverpool take on Chelsea in midweek looking to book their place in the League Cup final, before a home clash with West Ham United in the Premier League at Anfield on 31 January.
Rodgers’ side are currently eighth in the Premier League table after 22 games and 17 points behind leaders Chelsea.
