Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers confident of Raheem Sterling stay
Brendan Rodgers backs Raheem Sterling to sign new Liverpool deal soon
Raheem Sterling sees his long-term future at Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers has reiterated.
The 20-year-old Reds winger is yet to sign a new Liverpool deal amid reported interest from Premier League leaders Chelsea and Champions League holders Real Madrid.
I’m sure it will be sorted and organised very soon
Sterling has emerged as one of Liverpool’s key players, particularly in the absence of Daniel Sturridge, making 33 appearances in all competitions so far this term.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of his side’s clash against West Ham United at Anfield on Saturday, Rodgers gave an update on the England star’s future.
“Raheem is very happy here,” Rodgers said. “He’s a young player that is playing at one of the greatest clubs in the world and playing very well.
“He sees his long-term future here. I spoke to Raheem again today – he’s very happy, happy with his progress and how he’s developing.
“He’s a real sponge for learning; he’s a young player that knows he’s in the right place to develop and be looked after.”
Rodgers added that he is confident Sterling’s contract will be sorted in the near future.
“It’s all in hand with the football club and his representatives. I’m sure it will be sorted and organised very soon.”
The Reds forward has scored seven goals and has made six assists in all competitions, including four Premier League goals in 21 top-flight appearances.
Sterling has blossomed under Rodgers’ guidance following the Northern Irishman’s appointment as Kenny Dalglish successor at Anfield in 2012.
