Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva: This is my best form since knee injury
Lucas Leiva is thrilled with his current form
Lucas Leiva believes he is producing his best form since recovering from a serious knee injury in 2011.
The Brazil international has been in impressive form since he return to the Liverpool side for their 1-0 win against Stoke City in late November.
Liverpool were unbeaten in 14 games with the defensive midfielder in their side before a 1-0 extra-time loss to Chelsea in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
The 28-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Inter Milan in recent weeks, is delighted with his current form ahead of the visit of West Ham United.
“After that injury, it’s probably my best moment. As I’ve said before in a few interviews I’ve given, I feel myself again and I feel really sharp, really strong and go into games thinking I have got nothing to lose,” Lucas told Liverpool’s website.
“I just enjoy them because in football you never know what is going to happen. We always know that after a bad or difficult moment always comes a good moment and vice versa.
“I just have to enjoy my football and really concentrate on keeping at the level of performance I’m playing at the moment. I think if I do that, I can be in the team and help.
“That’s what I probably wasn’t able to do at the beginning of the season, so I like to feel that I am helping – and that’s how I feel now.”
The South American has been touted as an Inter Milan target in recent months, despite proving a key cog during the Reds’s nine-game unbeaten run.
The defensive midfielder was close to a switch to Rafael Benitez’s Napoli side in the summer transfer window, but Liverpool blocked the touted season-long loan move.
