Man United so lucky to have Angel di Maria, admits defender
Chris Smalling reminds Manchester United that they are lucky to have signed the Argentina international
Chris Smalling believes that Manchester United were “lucky” to be able to sign Angel di Maria from Real Madrid last summer.
The Argentina international joined the Red Devils in a £59.7m deal following Louis van Gaal’s appointment as manager and has gone on to establish himself as a regular in United’s first-team.
And defender Smalling has described the winger as a “special player” as United gear up for their FA Cup clash with Cambridge United this weekend.
“I imagine Angel is a player that any fan would want in their team and any player in the world would want to play with,” Smalling told MUTV.
“We were lucky enough to be able to get him.”
Smalling continued: “I remember watching his matches for Real Madrid last season – he was up and down the pitch, creating so many goals. He is a special player.”
Di Maria, who helped Argentina reach the World Cup final in Brazil last summer, has scored three goals and made six assists in 14 Premier League games for United this season.
He has missed a number of games in recent weeks due to a hamstring complaint but played the full 90 minutes as United ran our 2-0 winners over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon.
