Man United star names Carrick as one of best players he’s played with
Ander Herrera heaps praise on Michael Carrick
Ander Herrera has described Michael Carrick as one of the best players that the Manchester United midfielder has played with.
The 33-year-old midfielder has proven a mainstay in Louis van Gaal’s side following his return from injury in November.
He is one of the best players I’ve ever played with and a very good professional
The England international has been utilised as a centre-half and a holding midfielder, highlighting his versatility.
Herrera, who moved to United from Athletic Bilbao in the summer, heaped praise on the experienced Red Devils star.
“He always gives us calmness; he’s a very calm guy when he’s playing. He gives me confidence,” Herrera told United’s website.
“He is very good for the young players because he always tries to help, not necessarily with words but with his attitude and his calmness.
“He is one of the best players I’ve ever played with and a very good professional.”
United manager Van Gaal confirmed that Carrick is set to be sidelined for at least a month with a muscle rupture.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference on Friday, the Dutchman spoke about Carrick’s injury setback.
“I think it shall take more than four weeks, so it is not a minor injury but a muscle rupture, I think.
“He is also the second captain but I have to say that’s part of the job of a manager, especially this season at Manchester United, because we have suffered a lot of injuries. But now we have seen [the light at] the end of the tunnel.”
Carrick has been ever-present in Van Gaal’s side following the former Tottenham Hotspur star’s return from an ankle injury.
The long-serving United midfielder has racked up 1,033 minutes of Premier League action under the Dutchman this season.
