Man United transfers: Fletcher in West Ham ahead of move, reveals Van Gaal
Louis van Gaal reveals Darren Fletcher is close to West Ham move
West Ham United appear to be on the brink of signing Darren Fletcher after Louis van Gaal confirmed the Manchester United midfielder is at the Hammers ahead of his proposed transfer.
The 30-year-old midfielder is the longest-serving United player in Van Gaal’s current squad, but the Scotland international has failed to earn a place in the first-team in recent months.
Unsurprisingly, the experienced United man has been attracting interest from a host of clubs, including Premier League duo West Bromwich Albion and West Ham, as well as La Liga outfit Valencia.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce appeared to cast doubt on a deal during his media conference on Thursday, but Van Gaal hinted that the Scot was set to seal a switch to the east London side this afternoon.
“He is now in West Ham, I believe,” Van Gaal told his pre-match media conference on Friday.
“We have to wait and see. He is my third captain, an important guy in the dressing room. I like him as a human being. But he has not played so much.”
Fletcher, who was named as one of Van Gaal’s vice-captains at the start of the season, has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups during a 12-year United career.
