Man United transfers: Red Devils’ £27m bid for defender rejected, says Balague

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague says that Manchester United have had a bid rejected for Nicolas Otamendi

Manchester United have had a £27m bid for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi rejected by the Spanish club, according to respected journalist Guillem Balague.

Louis van Gaal is understood to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this month as the Manchester United boss looks to shore up his back four.

Argentina international Otamendi has been touted as a possible target for the Red Devils, and Balague claimed on Twitter on Monday that United have had a bid for the defender rebuffed by Valencia.

Meanwhile, the Spanish journalist, who has more than 840,000 followers on the social network, also revealed that both United and Arsenal have made enquiries about the possibility of signing Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal.

Both of the Premier League clubs are thought to be keeping an eye on the Brazilian defender, but Balague says that it is unlikely that he will be sold for anything less than his reported £15.3m buyout clause.
