Man United’s Angel di Maria hails ‘very aggressive’ Marcos Rojo
Angel di Maria discusses Marcos Rojo's characteristic on-and-off the pitch
Angel di Maria has heaped praise on “very aggressive” Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo.
The Reds are yet to see the best of the Argentina international after a string of injuries following his summer move to Old Trafford.
After so many great games and a great World Cup he deserves to play for a great club like United
Rojo rose to prominence with a series of uncompromising performances during the World Cup, prompting Louis van Gaal to sign the versatile defender.
His compatriot Di Maria, who joined United in a British record £59.7m deal, described Rojo’s characteristic on-and-off the pitch.
“Off the field he’s really relaxed, a real family guy, a really good person,” Di Maria told the Mirror.
“But on the field he’s a very aggressive player, very strong. He plays to the death. He puts it all on the line when he’s on the field and I know he will be a great asset to United.
“He does great with free-kicks in the area – he’s great at headers. He targets the ball and jumps high. I think he is a great player when it comes to headers.
“The first time I met him was with the national team. He’s a great guy – very modest, very laid back, very professional and after so many great games and a great World Cup he deserves to play for a great club like United.”
The Argentine defender has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils this season.
The centre-half missed almost a month after dislocating his shoulder during a 1-0 defeat by Manchester City in November.
Rojo completed a £16 move to Old Trafford from Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon in the summer transfer window.
Louis van Gaal’s side face Leicester City at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.
