Philippe Coutinho wants Liverpool to replicate Anfield performance
Philippe Coutinho is looking for a repeat of last week's impressive display against Chelsea
Philippe Coutinho has urged Liverpool to replicate their Anfield performance against Chelsea in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
The Reds face a Blues side still smarting from a 4-2 loss to Bradford City in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final tie.
It’s important that we try to do the same we did against them at Anfield, when we dominated the game throughout
Liverpool impressed against Jose Mourinho’s side last week, although Eden Hazard gave the visitors the lead before Raheem Sterling levelled.
Brazil international Coutinho believes the Reds can reach the League Cup final if the eight-time winners put Chelsea under constant pressure.
Coutinho told Liverpool’s website: “I can’t wait for this game. I’m always looking forward to the next game and this is a special one as it will be a decider for a place in the final. Everyone is focused on and prepared for this match.
“We have to try and do the same we did last week. We started that game 100 per cent concentrated and kept them under constant pressure without the ball, having kept possession most of the time and constantly chased the goal. We must repeat that to try and earn a victory.
“We know we must score at least one goal to win this tie and in order for this to happen, I think it’s important that we try to do the same we did against them at Anfield, when we dominated the game throughout.
“It’s going to be a difficult game as it’ll be played at their ground but we have to go after a win.”
Courtinho was one of the stars of Liverpool’s swashbuckling performance in their stalemate with the Premier League leaders last week.
The South American has scored two goals and has made two assists in 24 appearances in all competitions this season.
The Liverpool midfielder joined Anfield just over two years ago after he completed an £8.5m move to the Reds from Inter Milan.
