Didier Drogba takes to Instagram after being honoured by the Football Writers' Association on Sunday night
Didier Drogba was all smiles after the Chelsea striker was honoured for his contribution to football by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA).
The veteran forward received a tribute award for his work on the pitch at the FWA’s Gala Tribute event at the Savoy Hotel in London on Sunday night.
And the 36-year-old took to his Instagram account to share a picture of himself with his prize.
Drogba posted the photo above and wrote: “Great evening with @PetrCech @sportsprcompany and Thierry Henry, big thanks to @theofficialfwa @PaulMcCarthy66 & @AndyDunn_SM.”
The Ivorian, who rejoined Chelsea last summer on a one-year contract, also hinted that he would be keen to extend his second stay at the west London club beyond this summer.
Drogba is quoted as saying by Metro: “When you have achieved so much and won so many trophies like we have done in the past 10 years, that creates something special.
“I hope, and the club makes me believe, I am part of this big family, so we are going to find the best thing for both of us to promote the club in the best way.
“When I left this club the first time I was saying I had done everything I wanted to do but I think now that I did not do everything. I think there is more to do.
“I love this club and would love to be part of this club for the future, with the new players.”
The forward has scored five goals and made two assists in 22 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s men so far this season.
Chelsea are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table heading into Saturday’s showdown with Manchester City.
