Martin Skrtel found it hard to switch off after Liverpool's loss to Chelsea
Martin Skrtel took to social media on Wednesday morning to admit that he couldn’t get to sleep after Liverpool’s League Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
The Reds were beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night as Chelsea wrapped up a 2-1 aggregate victory and secured their place in the Wembley final on 1 March.
Skrtel was too energised to sleep when he got back to Merseyside early on Wednesday morning and opted to watch some of the action from the Australian Open to help him wind down.
Skrtel, who felt the Reds deserved to make it through to the final, posted the picture above on his Instagram account and wrote: “Just get back home and cant sleep after the game and especially result last night.
“Think we deserved more!!! So watching slovakian tennis player cibulkova on her way to the semi finale of the australian open. Pomeee!!! @domicibulkova.”
Liverpool played their part in an entertaining tie and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho admitted after the game that the Reds had pushed his side to the wire.
However, Branislav Ivanovic’s extra-time header ended up securing the west London club’s place in the final against either Sheffield United or Tottenham Hotspur.
