Steven Gerrard has taken to social media to wish Luis Suarez happy birthday after the Barcelona forward turned 28.
Gerrard posted a picture of the duo sharing a joke together back when the Uruguayan used to play for Liverpool.
The Liverpool skipper posted the above photo on Instagram account and he wrote: “Happy birthday mate @luissuarez9”
Suarez has so far failed to live up to the expectations at Barcelona following his £75m move in the summer, and the Uruguayan has only scored five times in 16 appearances.
His current form is in stark contrast to last term when he scored 31 goals for the Reds, enjoying a fruitful understanding with Gerrard.
Their friendship has extended off the pitch, and when Gerrard announced he was leaving Liverpool to join MLS club LA Galaxy at the end of the season, Suarez put a heart-felt message on his Instagram account.
Suarez said: “With you I have lived one of the best moments of my career in a stadium. I am proud to say I played with a legend like you.
“I admire everything you have done during the years in Liverpool MY FRIEND. I wish you the best of the best!! YNWA.”
There are signs in recent games that Suarez is now starting to adapt to Barcelona’s way of playing and the manager, Luis Enrique, suggested that they are happy with his performance.
He said: “We are happy with all Luis brings us, and what he will bring in the future.”
Suarez scored 69 goals in 110 Premier League appearances following his £22.75m move to Anfield from Dutch side Ajax in January 2011.
